Question from a reader (which I can 100% relate to, being a pear shape myself):
” I was wondering if you could answer a quick question for me. I have a small bust, and a disproportionately large rear, which means that I have a quite challenge matching my top to bottom, and vise versa. How do I balance the two out when wearing lingerie? Is there a particular cut of panty or bra that I should wear? Thanks very much!” – Jessica
Well, Jessica, this is an excellent question and a dilemna that many of us face. If you are a size (or two) smaller on the top then on the bottom, you often feel flat up top and round on the bottom, which doesn’t work well in dresses or form-fitting clothes. A few tips for you:
1. If you are wearing a dress that is tight in the bottom and loose on top, wear a slightly-padded bra and add silicon inserts to fill out that baggy top. I am not above doing this myself, and have definitely busted them out on several occasions to balance out my booty. I like cleavage cupcakes by her look. They are silicon and will last forever.

2. If you need to smooth out your bottom, or even lose a couple inches from your hips, you can add a smoother short to your collection. I like these power shorts by Spanx. They suck in your hips and thighs, but don’t advance too high on your tummy–as you don’t really need that coverage or suction.
3. This isn’t really underwear related, but over any outfit you should rock a blazer. A blazer’s shoulders balance our your hips and will make any outfit look better. Make sure to look for one that covers your hips and is structured–like this one from Nordstrom. This blazer hits right below the hips and visually will balance a pair shape.
4. Back to bras: under a t-shirt and jeans wear a bra that creates a bust-line outside of your body. You can do this by looking for a bra that lifts and separates. Even if you are petite up top, you can find a slightly padded or push up bra that pushes the bust up and out –creating a curve that gives the hourglass effect. The Gigi bra from Le Mystere does just that–see how the cups round out on the sides? This is what you want in your bras (as long as you don’t mind a little padding).
Thanks, Jessica. I hope this helps!!

I am constantly asked by my D+ cup customers where they can find bras that aren’t “Grandma” style (No offense to Grandmothers out there). There are ample bras out there for your ample girls!
